What is the TearCare® System?

The TearCare® System is FDA-approved for dry eye symptoms associated with Meibomian Gland Dysfunction (MGD) - a chronic condition where the oil glands of the upper and lower eyelid become clogged or frequently infected due to inflammation or from less than normal amounts of blinking. It involves an application of localized heat therapy at a specific temperature on the upper and lower eyelids in adult patients in conjunction with manual expression of the meibomian glands.

What are the benefits of the TearCare System?

Comfort - Patients often find TearCare to be comfortable and pain-free, and some describe it as a spa-like treatment.

Natural - Because patients can keep their eyes open and blink normally during the procedure, it can feel more natural than traditional treatments.

Quick Results - TearCare can provide quicker results than traditional treatment because the doctor is expressing the clogged oil glands of the eyelids, which makes the maintenance regimen more effective.

Long-lasting Relief - By stimulating tears and removing blockages, TearCare treatment can prevent permanent damage to the meibomian glands and provide long-lasting relief. While there is no cure for MGD it can be best controlled with TearCare to prevent frequent lid styes, redness, and irritation of eyes.

Rosacea
A bonus feature is that other types of IPL treatment are available in our office that can help control inflammation of the cheek, nose, and forehead that occur due to rosacea - without having to depend on medication.

Pigmented Age Spots
Specific types of IPL can also reduce the appearance of age spots from years of sun exposure. OptiLight Intense Pulsed Light (IPL) is a light-based treatment that can be effective for treating age spots and other skin conditions. IPL therapy uses pulsed light to destroy pigmentation and discoloration while preserving the surrounding tissue. It can also strengthen collagen in the skin, which can contribute to an anti-aging effect.

Acne
Intense Pulsed Light (IPL) therapy, also known as photofacial therapy, can be used to treat acne by targeting its main causes. IPL emits light energy in quick pulses that can reduce the number of acne bacteria, reduce inflammation, and reduce the production of excess oil. IPL can also help heal existing inflammatory lesions and prevent new ones from forming.

Wrinkles
OptiLight Intense Pulsed Light (IPL) is a non-invasive procedure that can help reduce the appearance of wrinkles and fine lines around the eyes. IPL works by stimulating collagen production, which can fill in wrinkles from the inside out. It can also improve skin texture and tone, and strengthen existing collagen fibers to make skin firmer and smoother. IPL can also help minimize pigmentation, resulting in a more even skin tone.
